Wildwood is an upcoming American animated dark fantasy adventure film directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler. Based on the novel by Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists, and illustrated by Carson Ellis, the film is produced by Laika, marking their sixth stop-motion animated feature.
The voice cast includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits, and Richard E. Grant. The story follows Prue McKeel and Curtis Mehlberg as they venture into a hidden magical forest to rescue Prue’s infant brother, Mac, from the clutches of Alexandra and her crows.
Wildwood Release Date
Laika began developing Wildwood in September 2011, shortly after the novel’s release. Official production started in September 2021, with Travis Knight directing and co-producing, and Chris Butler writing the script. The voice cast was largely finalized by August 2022. The stop-motion animation was produced at Laika’s studio near Portland, Oregon, with Caleb Deschanel as cinematographer. The film is set for a 2025 release.
