WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to react to messages by simply double-tapping them, similar to Instagram’s DM feature. According to WABetaInfo, the feature is currently in testing and will be available in the coming months.
This new feature will enable users to quickly respond to media content, including photos, videos, and GIFs, without leaving the viewer’s screen, making interactions faster and more convenient. Currently, reacting on WhatsApp requires users to press and hold the message or media file for a few seconds to open an array of reactions, which can be time-consuming. The double-tap feature will streamline this process by allowing users to react with a default heart emoticon.

It is still unclear whether the feature will include a disable option. Additionally, the exact rollout date for all WhatsApp users has not been announced, but it is expected to be part of an upcoming update.
WhatsApp is also working on several other Instagram-like features to meet user demand. Recently, it was reported that the messaging app is developing a feature that allows users to reshare status updates in which they’ve been mentioned, similar to Instagram stories.
