How to stop Strangers from adding to whatsapp groups? Find out

Whatsapp has been one of the most used apps for getting connected with people and unlike any other social media, they are clean from distractions and focus purely on communicative properties. But implementing a clean interface and keeping minimal features for the sake of not breaking the integrity of the app is not enough. Spammers find their way from within a sealed-off room and they are ever ready to annoy us.

Don’t throw away your phone, there are other ways of getting rid of the billions of group messages that annoy you daily.

The most common way for spammers or advertisers to promote their product/service is to make groups with a large number of people in it and broadcast their messages. And on top of that, you can’t stop them from doing so because you can’t block every other number from the face of the earth.

But, there is another simple, straightforward way in which you can prohibit people from adding you onto new WhatsApp groups, follow the steps given below and make your self spam-proof.

Step 1: Click on the tri-dot logo on the left-hand upper corner which signifies itself as a menu button.

Step 2: Click on the Settings button.

Step 3: Click on the Accounts button.

Step 4: Click on the Privacy button.

Step 5: The next menu will have various options, Now choose ‘Groups’ from the list of options.

Step 6: You will be presented with three options namely Everyone, My contacts and My contacts except.

Choosing Everyone will give privilege to any random stranger for adding you in groups, which you have been doing up until now.

Whereas selecting the second option and giving your Contacts the power to add you to groups sound nice. But if you are someone bored from getting added to another ‘family group’ which you can’t leave due to courtesy of not offending your elders, which is a horrific crime going by Indian standards if opposed to then you do not want to select this one too.

This leads us to the third option which is ‘My contacts except’ where you can not only block getting added from strangers but will get an invite from the contact member who you have excluded from adding you every time they add you to a new group. This way you have a choice to either join or just face the wall and ignore the invite and later come up with a viable reason in front of your relatives. You get three days to decide whether to join or the group or not.

Now, that we have broken down the process into steps and also explained to you what each option means, we hope that you would be able to use Whatsapp with peace.
