Even if you didn’t watch it, you probably heard of Squid Game, either from friends who couldn’t stop talking about it or just by being part of the world. It became unavoidable, swiftly rising to become one of Netflix’s most-viewed series globally, accumulating around 1.65 billion viewing hours within its initial 28 days.
Naturally, with its massive success, a second season of Squid Game was inevitable. However, will there be a third season of Squid Game?
When Will Squid Game Season 2 Release on NETFLIX?
Netflix confirmed in its Next on Netflix reel that Squid Game season 2 is slated for release in 2024. Although creator Hwang Dong-hyuk initially had no plans for a second season and took a break after the first, Netflix greenlit the show for season 2 in June 2022, slightly after its significant release in Fall 2021.
What Will Happen in Squid Game Season 2?
Details about Squid Game season 2 have been closely guarded by both Hwang and Netflix. While not much is known about how Gi-hun gets drawn back into the games, season 1’s finale hints at it. However, images released by Netflix suggest that season 2 will see Gi-hun striving to dismantle the games entirely.
Hwang confirmed in a letter last year that Lee’s Gi-hun will return for season 2, as teased at the end of season 1. The Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, will also make a sinister comeback, alongside Wi Ha-joon and Gong Yoo. Hwang expressed regret over killing off beloved characters, initially thinking Squid Game would be a standalone series.

Will There Be Squid Game Season 3?
Given the unprecedented global success and immense cultural impact of Squid Game, it’s highly likely that a third season will be greenlit. With its gripping storyline, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes, the series has captivated audiences worldwide, creating a fervent demand for more. Additionally, the open-ended nature of the finale leaves ample room for further exploration of the dystopian world and its characters’ fates. Moreover, the financial incentive for Netflix to continue the franchise is undeniable, considering the immense viewership and commercial success of the first two seasons. Therefore, the combination of fan anticipation, creative potential, and commercial viability makes the prospect of Squid Game Season 3 almost inevitable.
