Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched comprehensive health insurance coverage for senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This coverage applies regardless of financial status, with the only eligibility criterion being the individual’s age as recorded in their Aadhaar card.

New Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card
Eligible seniors will receive a unique Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card for accessing benefits. An Aadhaar-based e-KYC is required for enrolment and card issuance.

Insurance Benefits Under Ayushman Bharat
The scheme provides Rs 5 lakh in coverage on a family basis. This amount is shared among all family members, but an additional Rs 5 lakh is reserved for family members aged 70 or older. Other family members continue to receive their existing coverage.

A statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) noted, “Every senior citizen above the age of 70 will receive free treatment in hospitals with the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card. This initiative aims to reduce family expenses and alleviate worries.”
