Two major Bollywood films, Emergency and Azaad, were released on 17 January. While Emergency, starring and directed by Kangana Ranaut, has maintained a strong grip at the box office, Ajay Devgn’s Azaad has received a decent response. Both films are competing closely, and here’s how they performed on Day 2.

Box Office Performance of Emergency

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is based on the controversial 1975-1977 Emergency period in India. Kangana plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the film features actors like Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman. The film has received positive audience feedback.

Made on a budget of ₹60 crore, Emergency opened with a modest ₹2.4 crore on its first day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹3.42 crore on Day 2, showing a 36.8% increase from Day 1. This brings the two-day total to ₹5.92 crore. However, the numbers are lower than expected, making its box office success uncertain.

Box Office Performance of Azaad

Azaad marks the debut of Rasha Thadani and Aman Devgan and is set in the 1920s. The film revolves around a horse and blends romance with emotions. Along with the newcomers, it stars Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, Mohit Malik, and Piyush Mishra. The song “Ui Amma”, featuring Rasha, has been well-received.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Azaad earned ₹1.5 crore on its opening day. The film has been progressing slowly, and on Day 2, it again collected ₹1.5 crore, bringing its total to ₹3 crore. In comparison, Emergency earned ₹3.42 crore on the same day, keeping Azaad behind in the box office race.
