The schedule and dates for the Paris Olympics 2024 are out, and sports enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the opening ceremony. This year’s Olympic Games will officially open on Friday, July 26. Around 10,500 athletes from more than 200 nations, including over 590 sportspersons from the USA, will compete in 329 medal events across 32 sports and 45 sporting events.

The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics 2024 will take place on the Seine River as a four-mile-long floating procession. The Eiffel Tower will be illuminated, and athletes will ride on 160 boats through Paris, culminating the procession at Trocadero.

Coverage of the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony will begin at 12 pm (ET) on NBC. The event can also be live-streamed on Peacock.

Organizers report that 8.7 million tickets have already been sold, breaking the record from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. This number is expected to rise as tickets are still available for some of the 45 sports.

A competitive form of breakdancing called “breaking” will debut at the Paris Olympics. This urban dance style, which originated in the Bronx in the 1970s, was added to the Paris 2024 program in late 2020. The Paris organizers have also included sport climbing, skateboarding, and surfing, which were additional events at Tokyo 2020.

Karate, which debuted at Tokyo 2020, will not be included in the 2024 Games. Baseball-softball has also been dropped for Paris but will return at Los Angeles 2028.
