Netflix Murder Mystery 2 Review

The fact that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are clearly having a blast working on Murder Mystery 2 is what sets it apart from other films in this genre. Both of them understand what works and what doesn’t, and have incredible science to back up their satire.

Also, the fact that Murder Mystery 2 immediately jumps into the film’s overall narrative is one of the smartest choices it makes early on. Instead of spending the entire first act establishing characters and dynamics, we jump right into a story that is enjoyable enough on its own to get us where we need to be in the story.

Things pick up when the film brings together the entire supporting cast, including the Colonel (John Kani), the bride-to-be Claudette (Mélanie Laurent), the Countess Sekou (Jodie Turner-Smith), the retired soccer player Francisco (Enrique Arce), and the Maharajah’s sister Saira (Kuhoo Verma), just like in the first movie. The group dynamics work well, and the back-and-forth helps to create some of the film’s few laugh-out-loud moments.

Tom Costain and Brian Robinson’s altering keeps the runtime tight, permitting us not to overthink the film’s plot and muddled third demonstration. Moreover, the absurd tropes and intricacies of the genre are simply leaned into in the third act, with few of them succeeding. However, this has the advantage of providing us with a fun sequence set in the Eiffel Tower, which is always a positive.

All in all, Murder Mystery 2 is a fine comedy to watch if you want to stream something fun that does not let you overthink things.
