On its opening day at the domestic box office, “Kalki 2898 AD” collected Rs 95 crore, with the epic science-fiction mythological film grossing nearly Rs 200 crore worldwide. Within seven days, the film became the second-highest grossing Hindi film of 2024, poised to surpass Hrithik Roshan’s “Fighter.” So far, the film has netted Rs 414 crore in India, with over Rs 160 crore from the Hindi version alone. The Telugu version has netted over Rs 210 crore in India.

On Day 8, industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film earned Rs 22.30 crore net at the Indian box office, nearly matching the Day 7 collections of Rs 22.25 crore. Although there has been a notable drop in theater occupancy compared to the opening weekend, the film continues to maintain its momentum at the box office and is expected to see a surge in collections in its upcoming second weekend. Trade analysts predict the film will cross the Rs 1000-crore mark at the box office in the coming days.

After outperforming all regional and Hindi films of the year, “Kalki 2898 AD,” originally a Telugu film, has emerged as the latest pan-Indian hit. It is expected to break several box office records in the coming days. However, it remains to be seen if it will surpass the lifetime records of films like “Baahubali: The Conclusion” and “KGF: Chapter 2,” which stand at over Rs 1200 crore worldwide. “Kalki 2898 AD” was touted as the most expensive Indian film of all time, with a budget of around Rs 600 crore. A lot was riding on the film’s success, especially for Prabhas, who has delivered only one hit in the seven years since “Baahubali 2.”

Directed by Nag Ashwin of “Mahanati” fame, “Kalki 2898 AD” is a sci-fi dystopian film featuring Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The film blends Indian mythology with sci-fi elements and has been positively received by both critics and audiences. It concluded with the promise of a second part, which will focus on the arrival of Kalki, the tenth avatar of the Hindu lord Vishnu.
