Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, has announced a major revision in its postpaid plans, impacting users on the ₹199 plan. From January 23, 2025, these customers will be automatically moved to the ₹299 plan, resulting in a price increase of over 50%.
The ₹299 plan includes unlimited voice calls and 25GB of monthly data, with additional usage costing ₹10 per GB. While the price is higher than the previous ₹199 plan, the overall benefits remain largely unchanged. This increase may particularly affect users looking for budget-friendly options.
For new customers, the ₹299 plan is no longer available. Instead, the base postpaid plan now starts at ₹349, offering 30GB of data—5GB more than the ₹299 plan—along with unlimited 5G data where applicable.

This update mainly impacts existing ₹199 plan subscribers. Given the price hike, many might find the ₹349 plan a better choice due to its higher data allowance. However, for those with minimal data needs, the ₹299 plan may still be suitable.
Jio has not provided an official reason for the pricing change, but it is likely part of a broader strategy to simplify postpaid plans and encourage upgrades. With Jio’s continued 5G expansion, the company appears to be focusing on plans that maximize 5G usage.
If you’re currently on the ₹199 plan, it’s worth considering whether to stay on the ₹299 plan or switch to the ₹349 plan for additional benefits.
