The first quarter of 2025 has been quite disappointing for Bollywood. Except for Chhaava, no film managed to become a major hit. Many hoped Sikandar would bring back success to the industry, but its failure surprised everyone. Now, as the second quarter begins, fans and filmmakers are hoping that Jaat will change the game.
Jaat marks Sunny Deol’s big-screen return after more than a year, since the massive success of Gadar 2 in August 2023. Although Sunny has worked on a few other films in the meantime, this is his most awaited release. It’s also a unique project for him, as it’s his first time in a film with a strong South Indian flavour. Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the movie promises to show Sunny in the kind of powerful role that made him popular in the 80s and 90s.
Randeep Hooda plays the main villain, Varadaraja Ranatunga, and fans are excited to see the intense clash between him and Sunny on screen. The film releases this Thursday and is designed as a full-on mass entertainer, mainly targeting single-screen audiences and cinema-goers in smaller towns.

The teaser and trailer have received a decent response, especially from fans of action-packed films. However, the movie may not attract a lot of family viewers, and the promotional campaign, though good, hasn’t been over-the-top.
Because of this, the opening day collections are expected to be in the range of ₹7–9 crore, with a chance of touching ₹10 crore if word-of-mouth is strong. Given the string of flops Bollywood has faced lately, even such an opening would be seen as a positive start for Jaat and could bring some much-needed hope to the industry.
