How the Air India-Vistara Merger Will Affect Your Flights and Travel Experience

On November 12, 2024, Air India and Vistara will officially merge, marking a significant shift in India’s aviation landscape. The merger promises a smooth transition for passengers, with Air India retaining Vistara’s service quality and maintaining a similar flying experience.

For passengers who have already booked Vistara flights, there will be minimal change. While Vistara aircraft will continue to operate under Air India, they will now have a new four-digit flight code starting with “AI” instead of “UK.” For example, a flight like UK 955 will become AI 2955.

In the first month post-merger, 115,000 customers who had pre-booked Vistara flights will experience the unified Air India. The routes, schedules, and services will remain unchanged, ensuring passengers enjoy the same in-flight experience and services they are familiar with.

Air India is implementing several initiatives to assist passengers through the transition at airports. Special help desk kiosks will be set up at major hubs, and staff will be available in branded t-shirts to guide travelers. Additionally, signage and directions will help direct passengers with old Vistara tickets to the new system.

International travelers will also experience a smooth transition, with customer support staff available at key international airports and updated signage. Vistara customers flying internationally will be redirected to Air India’s support representatives.

As part of the merger, Air India is investing in fleet upgrades, with new aircraft joining the narrowbody fleet and retrofitting existing planes with modern interiors. The airline is also expanding its network to over 90 domestic and international destinations, offering enhanced meal services and a better overall inflight experience for travelers.
