How Metro will Link the Noida & Delhi Airport

Category-

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has devised a plan to enhance connectivity between Noida International Airport and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The project, once approved, will be fast-tracked by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), providing a seamless travel experience for commuters and air travelers.

Proposed Metro Extension

Preparations are in progress to extend the Golden Line Metro from Aerocity to Kalindi Kunj. Currently, this line connects Aerocity and Tughlakabad, but extending it to Kalindi Kunj will allow direct access to the Botanical Garden Metro Station. This extension is expected to ease travel for thousands of passengers by cutting down commute times and offering a more convenient route.

According to DMRC Chief Project Manager Shiv Om Dwivedi, the plan includes the construction of a 5 km elevated metro track between Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj. Two new metro stations—Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar—are also part of the proposal. The estimated cost for this extension is around ₹950 crore, for which the DMRC has requested funding from the Yamuna Development Authority.

Benefits of the Extension

The proposed extension will connect the Golden Line to Kalindi Kunj, integrating it with the Magenta Line. This move will improve metro accessibility for passengers traveling between Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi IGI Airport. The DMRC estimates that this construction project can be completed within three years, making air travel more convenient for residents of the region.

Future Metro Expansion

While the metro extension project is expected to be completed within three years, a separate, larger project—the 72.4 km-long Namo Bharat Metro route, which aims to connect directly to Noida International Airport—is projected to take at least six years.

At present, the Botanical Garden Metro Station serves as a major interchange between the Magenta Line and the Blue Line. The Magenta Line, which runs from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden via Kalindi Kunj, consists of 25 stations—15 underground and 10 elevated. With the new extension, travelers will have even better access to key metro routes.

What’s Next?

The proposal is currently awaiting government approval. Once it gets the green light, DMRC is expected to move swiftly with the project to ensure timely completion. The metro expansion will be a significant boost for Noida and Greater Noida residents, making travel to Delhi’s airports faster and more efficient.
