India’s Harnaaz Sandhu brings home the Miss Universe Crown after 21 years. Before her, only two Indians have won the title of Miss Universe- actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. So it is great news for India and its people.
Ms. Sandhu represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel. The 21-year-old from Punjab claimed the crown edging out Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane.
Ms. Sandhu was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico. Ms. Sandhu, who started her journey in pageantry at the age of 17, has previously been crowned Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and was even placed in the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019. She has also worked in Punjabi films like “Yaara Diyan Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange.”
What Made Harnaaz Sandhu Reach The Finals?
In the top 5, Harnaaz Sandhu was asked, “Many people think climate change is a hoax; what would you do to convince them otherwise?”
Harnaaz impressed all when she said, “My heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems, and it is all due to our irresponsible behavior. I feel that this is the time to take action and talk less. Because each action could save or kill nature. Preventing and protecting is better than repent and repair, and this is what I am trying to convince you guys today.”

As part of the top three rounds, the contestants were asked, “What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today.”
Here is what Harnaaz said “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique, and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself with others, and let’s talk about more important things worldwide.
She continued “This is what you need to understand. Come out, speak for yourselves because you are the leader of your life; you are the voice of your own. I believed in myself, and that’s why I am standing here today.”
In all this, we can see what confidence can do for you, which we can see reflected in the way Harnaaz spoke. Moreover, it’s a moment of pride, and in all sense, we can say that we’re pretty delighted by the news, aren’t we?
