The film was first announced in April 2015, with Warner Bros. Pictures’ involvement, and Gil Kenan signed on to direct and co-write it. Following several delays in starting production, Warner Bros. eventually put the project on hold, and Kenan was no longer involved. Blumhouse Productions was announced as the film’s producer in March 2017.
