Dubai has approved the development of its first aerial taxi vertiport, a pioneering step towards introducing urban aerial transport. Situated near Dubai International Airport, the vertiport will offer passengers a unique and efficient flying experience.
Authorized by Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project marks a significant milestone for the city. Covering 3,100 square meters, the vertiport will feature take-off and landing zones, aircraft charging stations, a taxi apron, and parking spaces, designed to handle 42,000 landings and accommodate up to 170,000 passengers annually.
The air-conditioned vertiport will be built to international safety standards in collaboration with Joby Aviation, responsible for aircraft manufacturing and operations, and Skyports, overseeing the infrastructure design and management. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will manage the project and integrate it with existing transport networks. The aerial taxi service is scheduled to launch in early 2026.
The service will feature Joby’s eco-friendly S4 model, an electric vehicle with zero emissions, capable of vertical take-offs and landings. With a top speed of 321 km/h and a range of 161 km, the S4 can carry a pilot and four passengers, operating at quieter levels compared to traditional helicopters.

RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer highlighted that the first phase will focus on four key locations, offering a fast, safe, and integrated transport solution for both residents and visitors. The project aligns with Dubai’s vision to enhance multimodal connectivity, linking aerial taxis with other transport options like e-scooters and bicycles.
Earlier this year, the RTA signed agreements with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Skyports, and Joby Aviation to bring the aerial taxi service to reality.
