The Delhi government is taking concrete steps to boost the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in the capital. As part of this initiative, the government is planning to introduce Delhi EV Policy 2.0. The goal of this new policy is to ensure that by 2027, 95% of all new vehicle registrations in Delhi will be electric.
In an official statement released on Monday, March 10, the Delhi Transport Department stated that “Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is aimed at promoting electric mobility in the capital.” The first Delhi EV Policy was launched in 2020 and ended in August 2024 after multiple extensions. Now, EV Policy 2.0 is expected to replace the previous electric vehicle policy.
Key Highlights of Delhi EV Policy 2.0
Under the new EV Policy 2.0, CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, taxis, and light commercial vehicles will be gradually replaced by electric vehicles. The government plans to implement this transition in multiple phases. Additionally, only electric buses will be used for public transportation in the capital.
The Delhi government is also expected to offer benefits for purchasing electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light commercial EVs, and electric trucks.

To encourage people to shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles, the government will introduce various incentives. The policy will also focus on electrifying commercial transport and ensuring strict enforcement of the new regulations.
Boosting EV Infrastructure
To increase the demand for electric vehicles, the Delhi government may introduce several incentives to encourage people to choose EVs over traditional ICE vehicles.
A major focus of EV Policy 2.0 will be the expansion of public EV charging infrastructure. The government aims to install more public EV charging points across the city. Additionally, setting up charging stations in new buildings and public spaces may be made mandatory.
The Delhi government is also expected to provide subsidies for setting up private and semi-public EV charging stations. Moreover, fast-charging stations may be installed on major roads such as the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road to ensure convenience for EV users.
