Connection of This Village with the World is Lost, Mountain Gradually Crumbling, People Living with Only One Hope!

A village in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has been cut off from the rest of the world. For the past 10 days, residents have been facing severe difficulties in commuting. A mountain near the village is gradually crumbling, causing debris to repeatedly accumulate on the road. Although the debris has been cleared multiple times, the situation has now worsened as the iron bridge over a stream on the route has sunk on one side. The villagers are now living with only one hope.

Sherpur village, located in the Dalhousie constituency of Chamba district, has been isolated from the world for the past 10 days due to a massive landslide on the Sherpur-Chamba Banikhet road. The iron bridge built over the stream has also partially collapsed, halting all movement in the area. The continuous falling of debris from the landslide has made it difficult for the administration to restore the road, significantly impacting the daily lives of the residents.

Patients in need of medical treatment must be transported via an alternate route, which is much farther. The villagers are waiting for the authorities to clear the debris and start reconstructing the bridge so that their problems can be resolved. However, given the continuous flow of debris from the mountain, it seems unlikely that their issues will be resolved anytime soon.

Local residents have reported that the Sherpur-Banikhet road has been completely blocked by debris in the stream. They shared that the closure of this route has caused significant inconvenience. If anyone falls sick, reaching the hospital becomes a major challenge. They noted that there are hospitals in Bathri and in Kheri (Chamera), which are closer to the village, but with the main route closed, they are forced to take an alternative path, which wastes a lot of time. The residents have urged the administration and the government to restore the road as soon as possible and repair the damaged bridge so that they can once again have access to the road and its conveniences.
