The common man has been hit by a major wave of inflation. The Modi government has increased the price of LPG gas cylinders by ₹50. This hike also applies to Ujjwala scheme cylinders. Earlier, Ujjwala cylinders were available for ₹503, but now they will cost ₹553. Similarly, the price of regular LPG cylinders has gone up from ₹803 to ₹853.
Shock of Price Hike Due to Inflation
According to the government’s announcement, starting Tuesday, 8 April 2025, the price of LPG gas cylinders will be increased by ₹50. This price hike will be applicable to both Ujjwala and non-Ujjwala customers. Under the new rates, all consumers will have to pay ₹50 more per cylinder.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri confirmed this update. He mentioned that consumers will now have to pay ₹50 more per cylinder. However, he also assured that this decision is not permanent and will be reviewed every 2 to 3 weeks.

Excise Duty Increased on Petrol and Diesel
The central government has also decided to increase the excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹2. However, this is not expected to impact the pockets of common consumers. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, this decision will not burden the general public.
Hardeep Singh Puri added that you might have seen the finance ministry’s notification about a ₹2 increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel. He stated that this extra burden will not be passed on to the consumers. He further explained that although international crude oil prices have dropped to around $60 per barrel, India’s oil marketing companies keep a 45-day stock. Back in January, crude oil prices were at $83 per barrel, which later dropped to $75. So, the average cost of their crude stock is still around $75 per barrel.
