Category-

Chaitra Navratri 2025 will begin on March 30 and will continue until April 6. This year, the sacred festival dedicated to Goddess Durga will start on a Sunday, which means the Goddess will arrive on an elephant. According to scriptures, an elephant mount is considered highly auspicious for Goddess Durga’s arrival.

Significance of Kalash Sthapana in Navratri

Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana, also known as Kalash Sthapana, on the first day of Pratipada Tithi. During this, a sacred altar (Chowki) is set up, and for nine days, devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The Kalash (sacred pot) represents Lord Vishnu, and before worshipping Goddess Durga, devotees first offer prayers to the Kalash.

There are four Navratris in a year, but Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri hold the most significance. It is believed that worshipping Goddess Durga during these days brings her divine blessings. While the lion is the traditional vehicle of Goddess Durga, when she descends to Earth, her ride changes. This year, she will arrive on a horse.

Chaitra Navratri Pujan Vidhi (Worship Method)

Kalash Sthapana is an important ritual on the first day of Navratri. The Kalash, which is usually an earthen or copper pot, is installed in the northeast (Ishan) direction of the house. First, some soil is placed in the Kalash, and barley seeds (jau) are sown in it. Before setting up the Kalash, the area is purified with Ganga Jal (holy water). A red cloth is spread on a wooden platform (Chowki), and an idol or image of Goddess Durga is placed on it.

To prepare the Kalash, it is filled with water, and a red sacred thread (Mouli) is tied around its neck. A coin, rice grains (Akshat), betel nut (Supari), clove pair (Laung), and Durva grass are placed inside. Mango leaves are arranged around the Kalash, and a coconut wrapped in a red cloth is placed on top. Fruits, sweets, and prasad are kept around the Kalash, and the worship of Goddess Durga begins.
