A research by Bristol University has revealed that smartwatch can help people to get rid of the smoking habit. The researcher here has created a motion sensor app, which can identify the hand movements that happen while smoking a cigarette. This app will detect that the user is holding a cigarette in his hand. As soon as it is detected, a message will appear on the screen of this smartwatch and there will be vibration.

The message will talk about the benefits of quitting smoking

The app will show users such messages in which the benefits of quitting smoking will be mentioned. One message says that quitting smoking will make it easier for you to breathe. The second message says, ‘Remember why you decided to quit smoking.’ The app will also tell the user how many cigarettes he has smoked in a day.

No need for a smartphone

A smartwatch is enough to operate this app and it does not need to be paired with a phone. For its research, 18 people were included in the trial, who used to smoke 10 cigarettes a day, but were ready to give up this habit. More than 60 percent of these people said that the messages appearing on the app proved helpful for them.
