Airtel announced a partnership with Apple on August 27. Under this, Airtel Extreme users will get access to its OTT video and music streaming services Apple TV+ and Apple Music. What are the challenges of audio streaming platforms?

According to the EY-FICCI report released in March 2024, music streaming apps had around 185 million active users in 2023. However, only around 75 lakh i.e. only 4 percent of the users had subscribed. According to this report, increasing the base of paid subscribers is quite challenging because all music is available for free on YouTube. Apart from this, there is also FM radio on cars and mobile phones. Along with this, it is also available for free on many other streaming platforms. In such a situation, questions arise on the profitability of audio streaming platforms.
