Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced a special facility for travelers who feel exhausted during their journey. A pod hotel has been opened inside the New Delhi Metro Station. This hotel is strategically located at the busy interchange of the Yellow Line and Airport Express Line, providing passengers with a place to relax and refresh themselves.
This facility spans around 3,000 square meters and includes small sleeping pods as well as some larger rooms. It is especially beneficial for long-distance travelers or those who need a short break during their journey. This pod hotel offers an affordable and convenient alternative, similar to capsule hotels found in major transport hubs worldwide, ensuring a comfortable experience for passengers.
Part of DMRC’s Larger Plan
This initiative is part of DMRC’s larger plan to improve metro services by generating revenue beyond ticket fares and enhancing passenger facilities. Several metro stations, including Malviya Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B, are being transformed into commercial hubs with shops and food courts. Additionally, a grand banquet hall has been constructed at Noida Electronic City Metro Station, expanding the metro premises’ usability beyond just transportation.
DMRC’s Focus on Commercial Growth
DMRC has identified key areas for commercial development. Under this plan, Kohat Enclave will be turned into a commercial zone with parking facilities. In Azadpur, a 21,000-square-meter area will be developed for office and retail spaces, while Mohan Estate will have an 8,900-square-meter area designated for industrial use. Anand Vihar Metro Station will also feature an additional 4,100-square-meter retail space.
DMRC Expanding Services Beyond Transportation
DMRC aims to make metro stations more convenient by integrating commercial spaces, hotel-like facilities, and transit services. This will help make the metro network a self-sustaining system that operates smoothly without heavy dependence on government support.

Pod Hotel’s Unique Features
The pod hotel at New Delhi Metro Station will transform it from just a transit hub into a place where travelers can rest and refresh before continuing their journey. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is that guests can book it for a few hours or stay overnight, depending on their needs. Unlike traditional hotels, there are no restrictions or unnecessary formalities, making it a hassle-free option.
Recently, OYO hotels have faced criticism for denying rooms to unmarried couples, causing inconvenience for many travelers. In cities like Meerut, OYO has even introduced a policy restricting rooms for unmarried couples. However, the pod hotel imposes no such restrictions, making it a more flexible and traveler-friendly accommodation option.
