Pan Cards to Be Linked to Aadhaar Cards: Mandatory for All.

April 1st will mark the end of your, Permanent Account Number (PAN) card’s validity, lest you link it up to your AADHAAR card, a condition made mandatory to be fulfilled prior to or by, 31st march to prevent your PAN card from being declared “inoperative” or no longer in use.




Pan Cards to Be Linked to Aadhaar Cards

An invalid or inoperative PAN restricts you from filing an ITR, as it means, that the PAN has not been furnished as per law, the defaulters will be fined a handsome sum of 10,000 in accordance to Section 272B of the Income Tax Act.

To perform tasks such as opening a bank account, purchasing shares or mutual funds and carrying out transactions above Rs 50,000 the PAN and AADHAAR must be linked.




Applicants for a new PAN card, will mandatorily have there AADHAR linked to it, the interlinking will be done on its own, but for all current PAN cardholders, the interlinking is to be done by the date mentioned above.

Here is a detailed guide to linking PAN card with AADHAAR card.

Step 1: Visit the official Income Tax Department website

Step 2: Click on the ‘Link AADHAAR’ option present on the homepage.

Step 4: You will be redirected to a new page, where you have to enter details such as PAN Card number, AADHAAR Card number, Name as mentioned on the AADHAAR card and the given captcha code.

Step 5: once you are done with step 4, click on the ‘Link AADHAAR’ option and the linking process will be complete.

Step 6: The linking will be done after the I-T department confirms your name, date of birth and gender details against AADHAAR details.



Here is how you can check the PAN-AADHAAR linking status via SMS.

Step 1: Type UIDPAN <12-digit AADHAAR> <10-digit PAN>

Step 2: Send this message on either 567678 or on 56161.

Here is how you can check the PAN-AADHAAR linking status.

Online.

Step 1: Visit the official Income Tax department website.

Step 2: Click on the link reading ‘Link AADHAAR status’.

Step 3:  You will be redirected to a new page.

Step 4: Enter your AADHAAR card and PAN card number. The status will be displayed.



Via SMS.

Step 1: You need to type UIDPAN <12-digit AADHAAR> <10-digit PAN>

Step 2: You can send this message either on 56768 or on 56161.
