UPI One World Wallet Launched: International Travellers Can Now Make UPI Payments in India- Know How to Use

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced the One World UPI wallet for international travellers visiting India. This wallet allows travellers to make UPI payments without needing an Indian SIM card or an Indian bank account. It uses Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) technology.

According to NPCI, “International travellers can handle their financial needs using UPI One World. It is easy to load and allows transferring any unused balance back to the original payment source. By letting foreign travellers use India’s real-time payments system, we are moving towards a more connected global digital payments system.”

One World UPI wallet was first introduced in 2023 during the G20 India summit and is now being rolled out. It is a prepaid wallet, which makes sending money easy and removes the need to exchange money, with no transaction or onboarding fees. To use One World UPI, travellers need to complete a know-your-customer (KYC) procedure, which requires a passport, visa, and an international phone number.

One World UPI is currently available from NPCI partners like IDFC First Bank and Transcorp. Travellers can sign up for the service at select airports and merchant stores.

How to Load Money in UPI One World Wallet?

One can add money to their One World UPI wallet using a credit or debit card. Travellers can also exchange money at certain counters with the help of forex experts. Currently, there is no information on whether there is a limit on how much money can be added to the wallet or if there is an option to send the money back to the original account.
