Narendra Modi has made history by being sworn in as Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time, becoming the second leader after Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve this feat. Modi, a key leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured power again through his influential leadership and widespread public support. The Modi cabinet includes six former Chief Ministers, four of whom are from the BJP.
N. Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, prominent political figures, seek the Lok Speaker position as ‘political insurance’ due to past instances of rebellions within ruling parties causing splits and government falls. Thus, the Speaker’s role is crucial.
The Lok Sabha Speaker’s position is significant and prestigious, responsible for ensuring the smooth conduct of proceedings in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament. The Speaker is elected from among Lok Sabha members, with the election being one of the first orders of business when a new Lok Sabha is formed.
