Has The Flip Smartphone Gone Down Better Than Expected?

Category-

Flip smartphone aren’t new, but they went out of fashion for a while. They were all the craze in the late 90s and early 2000s when the first models came out. Now, reimagined versions of foldable smartphones also have foldable, high-definition touchscreen displays. While those screens look great in ads, can they withstand the test of time? Keep reading and find out.

Bending Concepts

Forget the old toyish Motorola’s StarTac. This design was widely popular in 1996, but foldable screens were a Jetsons’ thing back then. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, released in 2020, was already praised for the durability and high quality of its display. Foldable phones fit more easily into the pocket and are potentially bigger than regular smartphones.

The superb quality of this type of screen, released two years ago, was enough to enable many kinds of gambling. Larger screens offer a much more immersive experience for online casino games and other multiplayer games.

This model was tried and tested extensively by experts in the field, and its screen proved resilient and long-lasting. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is already in its fourth generation. It’s one of the most expensive of its kind, followed closely by the Moto Razr 2022.

It’s also possible to find budget options, though. You can choose a “dumb” flip phone without social media or time-consuming games. Inspired by the 90s and early 2000s versions, such models are much cheaper than Samsung’s flagship model and also help you reduce screen time.

The Comeback

The “flip fever” is arguably part of a new social media trend. TikTok influencers such as Sammy Palazzolo have been promoting the benefits of “dumb” flip phones. Those phones are easier to carry and, ironically, help users to stay away from social media during the day.

However, flagship models like those developed by Samsung and Oppo work as top-quality smartphones. It means they come with a high-processing capacity and comparable features with the best smartphones around.

Smooth Curves

If you’re an enthusiast of foldable models and don’t want to give up the best mobile technology, quite a few options are available. Apart from the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, there’s also the Motorola Razr Plus and Oppo Find N2 Flip. Those are considered the top releases for 2023, followed by budget options like Alcatel Go Flip 4 and the K688 Hello Kitty.

The variety and quality of the new foldable phones show that the popularity of this model is alive and well. The best options come with 120Hz AMOLED screens, ranging between 6.7-inch and 6.9-inch in size. Price tags are usually around USD 1,000 for such models.

Recently, Microsoft released the Surface Duo, a foldable smartphone with a strong appeal for gamers. There are two 5.6-inch OLED displays of 5.6 inches each. While it’s less refined than Samsung’s and Oppo’s models, it still provides fantastic gameplay for emulators and other types of games.

Taking a Bow

The fear that foldable screens wouldn’t resist the wear and tear of daily use seems to be dispelled. Users reported unfolding their phones over 70 times in four months without any damage to the screen. So, the new flip phones are ready to endure long-term usage, appealing to gamers and average users alike.

While dumb phones have a health appeal, more developed models with top-notch capabilities also attract a lot of attention. Those models typically come with the best features in the market, like AMOLED screens, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chipset, and a lot of storage space. Flip phones are proving durable and adaptable, attracting tech crazes and technophobes alike.
