UGC has been taking tough actions towards making sure that the academic calendar gets back on track, which has been completely astray due to the pandemic.
This is why earlier, they have announced that all admission procedures for the upcoming batches should be commenced by 31st October.
Also, they have released new guidelines for the new batches and mentioned that the classes should be started by the 1st of November 2020.
But, UGC granted some relief to the universities by extending the deadline by the 18th of November 2020. And now, an extra set of 18 days is provided to make sure that no student gets harmed due to any unforeseen situation.
UGC released a notice saying, “ The UGC again requested the Expert Committee to revisit the guidelines dated 29-04.2020 and 06-07-2020 and suggest an Academic Calendar for the first year of UG and PG programs for the session 2020-2021. The Commission at its emergent meeting held on 21.09.2020 based on the Report of the Expert Committee approved the UGC guidelines on Academic Calendar for the first year of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of Universities for the session 2020-21 given COVID19 Pandemic.”
The new guidelines press on having classes 6 days a week and on having no winter or summer break as well. The medium of education is said to be in a hybrid model, which will be a combination of online and offline mode, as of now.
While the last date for colleges to take admission is said to be October 31st but under some special condition, new seats can be allotted by the end of November. No further delay would be entertained by the UGC.
The classes for the odd semester, which is 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and so on would need to be started in a manner guided by the UGC. Specifically, the most important is given to the batch which will be starting their colleges this year.
The reason being that while the classes for other batches are already taking place, the new students are pushed back in the timeline for this academic session.
