AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli breathed fire in a game against Gujarat Lions in 2016. The duo was unstoppable and smashed the Lions’ bowlers all around the ground to register the biggest partnership in IPL history.
2- Chris Gayle’s 175 off 66
Chris Gayle created history when he posted a monumental score of 175 in just deliveries for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India. The southpaw from West Indies smashed 13 fours and 17 massive sixes in his tally of runs. Gayle’s 175 is still the highest individual score in the T20 format. He helped RCB to post the highest total of 263 in IPL history.
3- Brendon McCullum’s 158 off 73
One can never forget Brendon McCullum’s inning that marked the presence of IPL in world cricket. In the first game of IPL history, the former Kiwi player notched up 158 runs to set the league on fire. His inning was a showcase of sixes and fours that set apart the standards of IPL from any other league.
4- Fifer for 5 runs by Anil Kumble
The Indian spinning wizard Anil Kumble delivered an astonishing performance in a game for RCB against RR in Capetown, South Africa. He dismantled the RR batting unit by picking up 5 wickets in 3.1 overs by giving away just a measly 5 runs. His wickets included the red hot Yusuf Pathana and Ravindra Jadeja.
5- MI vs PBKS Double Super Over
Who would have thought that a scenario like double super over could ever occur in IPL? However, much to everyone’s surprise, it did take place in a MI vs PBKS clash in 2020. Both teams tied at 176 in their 20 overs which ensued a super over. However, they against tied that ensued another super over. Ultimately Punjab Kings won the historic game.
6- Virat Kohli’s ton in a 15 over game
Virat Kohli smashed one of the bravest and most destructive hundred in IPL history when he scored a ton with 9 stitches on his left hand against Kings XI Punjab in 2016. He smashed 113 off just 50 balls, including 12 fours and 8 gigantic sixes. Kohli’s this inning is forever going to be an inspirational milestone for the youngsters.
7- Rajasthan Royals defy odds to win the inaugural IPL trophy
Nobody gave Shane Warne led Rajasthan Royals any chance of triumphing in the inaugural edition of IPL. However, the legendary Australian spinner acted as both coach and captain of the team to guide his side to the victory in the first-ever IPL. RR defeated Chennai Super Kings in the finals to lift the trophy.
8- Suresh Raina’s 87 off 25
Mr IPL, Suresh Raina played a blinder that almost took his team home in the 2nd qualifier of IPL in 2014. CSK was chasing a mammoth 226 to make a place in the finals. However, both CSK openers departed quickly to make way for one of the greatest knocks under pressure in IPL history. Raina hit 12 fours and 6 sixes but could not help his team win the game. Nevertheless, the knock justified the title of Mr IPL bestowed upon him by the fans.
