He then joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist and worked on several important missile projects. He played a significant role in the development of India’s first satellite launch vehicle, SLV-III.

In 1992, Kalam became the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Indian government, and in 1999, he was elected as the 11th President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007. During his presidency, he focused on promoting education, especially in rural areas, and advocating for India’s self-sufficiency in food production.

Kalam was a popular and highly respected figure in India and around the world, known for his simplicity, humility, and dedication to his work. He was also a prolific writer and authored several books, including “Wings of Fire,” an autobiography, and “Ignited Minds,” a book on transforming India.
